Founded in 2024, we're an independent team of tech enthusiasts dedicated to honest, rigorous hardware reviews.
The Verdict Lab was founded in London in 2024 by Liam Richardson, a former hardware engineer at Dyson who spent a decade watching tech publications churn out reviews that read like rewritten press releases. After years of reading "reviews" that were clearly written by someone who'd spent twenty minutes with a product, he decided to build something that actually respected the reader's intelligence.
Liam brought on Marcus Webb — an audio journalist he'd known since university — as the first hire, and the two of them spent six months building out the testing methodology before publishing a single review. The idea was simple: buy our own products, test them for weeks, and tell the truth even when it's inconvenient. No sponsored content. No brand-approved copy. No scores for sale.
Today, our small but dedicated team spans four cities and covers everything from headphones to smart thermostats. Every review follows the same rigorous methodology, and every score is earned — never given.
A small, focused group of specialists who care deeply about getting the details right.

Our methodology is public. Our affiliate relationships are disclosed. You always know where we stand.
Every product is tested for a minimum of two weeks using standardized benchmarks and real-world scenarios.
If a product is bad, we say so. If it's great, we explain exactly why. No hedging, no corporate-speak.
The Verdict Lab operates a dedicated testing facility equipped with industry-standard measurement tools and controlled environments.
Our testing protocols are documented in our Methodology page and updated quarterly.
